OKAY, so the other day my parents decided to have one of those 'family talks' which is basically code for: Let's make Sara feel like shit. So during this, my mom goes, "It's getting too out of control." So of course I ask her, 'what', is getting out of control. "THOSE CLOTHES. I FEEL LIKE YOU THINK THAT BECAUSE YOU WEAR THEM YOU HAVE TO ACT ALL CUTESEY AND STUFF. ALSO YOU KEEP WANTING MORE, I MEAN, YOU HAVE 1 SKIRT AND LIKE FIVE OR SIX DRESSES AND SOME BLOUSES AND STUFF, ISN'T THAT ENOUGH!?" Meanwhile this is the mother that had 10 million photos of me in lolita on her FB with the stereotypical mother comments of, "MY BABY IS SO CUTE/BEAUTIFUL/'INSERT SOMETHING POSITIVE HERE' "
So at this point I was all ready wound up and I just yelled back, "MAYBE I DRESS TO REFLECT MY PERSONALITY. I DON'T THINK WHAT DRESS I WEAR IS GOING TO AFFECT HOW I ACT." And my mom and dad just stared at me wide-eyed for the next minute or so before they move on buT SERIOUSLY MAN, I AM 16, LET ME WEAR MY FRILLY DRESSES, IT'S NOT LIKE I'M MIDDLE AGED WITH TWENTY CATS, NO JOB, AND SPENDING ANY CASH I HAVE ON FRIVOLOUS THINGS. WHICH IS WHAT THEY MAKE IT OUT TO BE SOMETIMES. BUT THEN SOMETIMES, THEY'RE LIKE, "AWWWW THAT DRESS IS SO SWEET ON YOU! LET ME TAKE A BILLION PHOTOS." IT'S LIKE MAKE UP YOUR MINDS, EITHER YOU LIKE IT OR YOU DON'T. TAKE YOUR PICK.
It's just like. Ugh. I think they're trying to tell me that I can't dress lolita when I go to college, since they're all like, "SARA, WE THINK YOUR ACADEMICALLY READY FOR COLLEGE, BUT WE'RE NOT GOING TO LET YOU GO TO COLLEGE UNLESS WE FEEL YOU ARE SOCIALLY READY." And it's ALWAYS mentioned after I talk about lolita for 'too long', like if I'm describing a new release of BtSSB, and just fawning over it. (Not asking them to buy it though, since that would be too much.)
*p.s. The only time I don't pay for my lolita clothes is either a) Birthday or b) Christmas. Every other time I buy my own brand/taobao/off brand/etc.*
